Westcliff Hard has achieved a proud record of success:

  • It is the leading club in the Southend area;
  • It is one of the top 2-3 clubs in Essex;
  • It competes for National championships.

(First a disclaimer: Westcliff Hard is not to be mixed up with another club in the area, Westcliff Lawn).

Westcliff Hard men won the National Club Championships in 1981 beating the prestigious Queens Club in the final. The club currently competes in the National Singles League.

Westcliff Hard men won the Home Counties cup in 1972, only the second team from Essex to have done so.

In the senior Essex county competitions:

  • The Men have won the Senior League Div.I 13 times & the Senior Cup 7 times.
  • The Ladies have won the Senior League Div.I 6 times & the Senior Cup for the last 2 years).
  • Other mens, ladies, veterans and junior teams, including 2nd and 3rd teams, have won many other county cup & league events.

In the Southend & District competitions the club has won countless titles.

In Leigh & Westcliff competitions the club fields a variety of teams in mens, ladies, mixed and veterans leagues, at different standards, and has achieved consistent success with a view to being competitive rather than dominant. We try and give everyone a game.

At the individual level the club has had outstanding success:

John Lloyd – the last British player before Andy Murray to reach a grand slam singles final.

David Lloyd – semi-finalist Wimbledon Mens doubles & final of the Davis Cup.

Tony Lloyd – Wimbledon singles player.

Ian Currie – represented England.
